Simandou Blocks 1 & 2

In December 2008, BSGR Guinea was awarded a three year exploration permit for Simandou Blocks 1 and 2, situated to the east and southeast of Kerouane, which was ratified by the Minister of Mines and the President of the Republic of Guinea in February 2009.

BSGR Guinea commenced its field activities in Blocks 1 and 2 in March 2009 and its third drilling campaign commenced in May 2009 by Geoprospects and Energold and to date some 1,200 metres have been drilled already.

All field activities in Blocks 1 and 2 are supported from the base camp in Kerouane and plans are in place to commence construction of a new base camp east of Blocks 1 and 2, to the north of Damaro. This new camp will form the basis of the envisaged new mining town.

Initially, five target areas have been identified going from south to north: View map

1. Steely Dan;
2. The Gaff;
3. Iron Maiden;
4. Metallica; and
5. Simply Red

Drilling by Geoprospects commenced on The Gaff, followed by Energold on Iron Maiden. Initial results show depths of over 300 metres and good mineralisation of up to 69% Fe.

A Definitive Feasibility Study ("DFS") for Blocks 1 and 2 is scheduled for completion by the end of 2010 but not later than during the first quarter of 2011. The aim is to start production from Blocks 1 and 2 in 2013 ramping up to 100 million tonnes per annum of product.

Details of the various aspects of the DFS can be found by navigating the buttons on this page, which will be updated on a regular basis.
